1450 Cub Cadet Clutch Safety Mechanism

Were there any problems with the clutch safety switch mechanisms not working properly or breaking? I know many clutch safety switches have been bypassed over the years but figured that was due to a bad switch. Having my 1450 torn down to the bare frame for painting I have noticed that the actuating mechanism seems very weak - thin metal plate that pushes the switch - and it seems as if it is not strong enough to actuate the switch as it bends easily. Now would be a good time to address that if there is a better fix.

"Plate" is spring steel and should operate the switch without bending.

Possibly, rubber "dust boot" on switch has hardened with age making it hard to push?

The plate only clips on and easily gets out of adjustment. I always eliminate them, but you might want to find a way to secure the plate to the shaft at the proper position. The earlier models also have
one for the mechanical PTO clutch.

RTR:

The Neutral Safety Spring has a long and successful life. Yes, like any part, they do occasionally break. My 1450 has had the original spring since 1976.

I believe the neck of the switch has threads and double nuts to allow adjustment on how close the switch mounts to the actuator.
The book says you should have about 1/8 inch of switch compression.
