J D 214 Vibration

I have a John Deere 214 I use to plow Snow. Runs fine, but has a vibration at idle. The side shields seem to vibrate even with rubber washers at the mounting points. I also have a Wheelhorse 212 also with a Kohler engine that does not vibrate at all-- Am I missing something like engine mounts ect. or is this common on the JD ? Thanks

I have a "214" originally owned by a customer, the rear engine mounting frame broke letting the engine move and contact the frame. I don't remember if it vibrated badly or not, though.

I pulled the engine, and welded and reinforced the mounting frame. At some point, the frames were made better from the factory.

Rear frame/"support" is Key # 16, also check rubber mounts, Key #5 to be sure they are not broken or sagged allowing metal-to-metal contact. Just a couple of ideas, things to check.

One other possibility is that someone has swapped in a different crankshaft in the past.

This tractor did NOT originally use engine balance gears, if the crank was ever damaged and a crank for an engine WITH balance gears got swapped in it would shake more with the mis-match of parts.

I got the tractor from his estate when he passed, as the family did not want it.

It runs and idles VERY smoothly, though the engine does bounce around on the rubber mounts noticeably.

Also, worn or damaged variator belts or a worn variator bushing can cause vibration.

Does the "shaking" change at all vs. variator lever position?

Did you try changing the idle speed slightly?
