23 x10.5 x 12 lug ag rear tires question

I am considering purchasing a set of 23 x 10.5 x 12 lug ag tires for my 1986 JD 214 tractor. I use it to pull a portable sprayer and fertilizer spreader on my 1 1/2 acre garden. When using the turf tires on worked ground I have some slippage. I have researched and found numerous brands of tire manufacturers that offer these for sale. Some are 2 ply, some are 4 ply and 6 ply. I'm not sure which brand/ply I would want to purchase. I don't need anything terribly expensive for what I'll be using them for. Has anyone purchased a set of these tires and be willing to offer their opinion and how they worked for you? Any and all assistance is appreciated.

The Carlisle Super Lug is the best of the lot lately.
They are pricey but big and very durable.
I have an old hard pair that I have moved from one tractor to another for a long time.
They will probably outlast me since I don't use them more than a few hours a year.
The Deestones are noticeably smaller but very usable and a lot cheaper.
Shop around online.
Miller Tire is a good source but not cheap.

I put the Deestone ag tires on my 224 Case and are happy with them. I think they are 4 ply, bought them online last year through Simple Tire. I can get some pics of them later if you like.

M.E.Miller Tire had new molds made in China for a 23-10,50x12 23 degree bar FIRESTONE with Firestone's approval. NOBODY else has it, only Miller, I have a Cub Cadet with 23-8.50x12's and another Cub Cadet with 26-12.00x12 tires, They pull great, especially if you add a set or two of wheel weights. Both sets are on tractors I've mowed with, absolutely NO damage to the grass, they just don't slip or spin. Turf tire do slip and spin and tear bare spots in your yard.
You may not need them to pull a sprayer or broadcast spreader But I've done both things with no problem, even moldboard plowed at half a dozen Cub Cadet plow days. I saw my first pair of 23 degree Firestone 23-8.50x12 about 1970 or '71. With no slippage I bet that pair is still gripping great on that 122 Cub Cadet on wet grass. No slippage equals no wear.
In dry conditions your 23-10.50x12 turf tires should pull your sprayer or spreader. I used my Cub Cadet to plow with only an 8 hp engine and 6-12 turf tires, and pulled my spike tooth lawn aerator that weighs 400# with my 23-8.50x12's, pulled my 60 gallon sprayer, and it barely knew the 175# spreader was there. A 2 ply tire is plenty, I did notice the 4 ply 26-12.00x12's were about 3 times harder to mount because they were stiffer.

Like These? Deestones, bought them on ebay.

Agreed. I had them on a machine and were poor performing. I went and got ATV studded snow tires in 4 ply and have all the traction you could ask for. ebay has them at a great price and free shipping with delivery in a couple of days.

Not all 23-10.5X12 lug tires are created equal. Here are Carlisle Super Lugs, and Deestones. Both sold as 23-10.5X12. Carlisle on the left, Deestones on the right.

Greg, we run into that problem at the tire shop a lot with ATV/SxS tires. People will order them online and bring them in to be mounted. Only to find out that those AMS 25-10-12 tires are actually 23-9-12.

When it comes to these type of tires. The first question people need to ask is. "Are they TRUE SIZE? For when dealing with small off road bias ply tires. A 25" tires can be anywhere from 21 to 25" tall when mounted.

If you have the space to mount 24-10-12 tires on your mower. The selection of good ATV tires will greatly improve.

I also put the Carlisle lugs on my JD 345 maybe 10 years ago. With loaded tires and wheel weights that little tractor is a pulling beast. I also use it to move a good bit of snow - 6 or less I use it rather than the farm tractor. I would agree with the hardness comments though - they seem very stiff.

One of the differences is that on a ZT mower, the Carlisle will rip up your lawn where the rounded shoulders shouldn't.....I would
assume as I had the Carlisle type lug, not that brand, on mine before I went to studded ATV snows.

My opt on that is when you have a 23-25 fat ATV snow, 2 ply tire rated a max of 5 psi, on an 8 rim.....reason for the small rim is to
maximize the balloon area for a soft ride, unlike a hard ply tire, or belted type, the center of the tread expands as a function of the air
pressure. So yeah, it could be any of those numbers depending on the air pressure.....BTDT as that is what I use on several of my
mowers for a soft ride.
