I have a B&S single cylinder engine on a log splitter. For some reason it dies , I remove the cap, then I can crank it back up and it will run for 10 minutes or so. If I leave it loose it will fall off. The rubber gasket split, so I remove it. Where is the vent (maybe plugged) or do I need just to replace it.

Vent is usually in the cap. Best to replace it. Most Farm and Ranch stores have caps or mower shop. Take old one with you. Good luck.

I have a JD L110 lawn tractor (yeah right) mower with the fuel tank in the rear...battery up front. Had the vent hole in the center of the cap get dirt in it and seal off. I didn't know it and one day I noticed my plastic tank, viewable from between the driver's legs, had disappeared..........In checking, the tank had collapsed, just like you'd take a paper bag and suck on it. Compressed air blew the tank back in shape, I ran a punch down the hole, blew in it and that was years ago...still working.
