hello , been on yt several years but first time on this section. looking for a breakerless ign. module & voltage regulator.( me & 100 other people !! ) if not available how much trouble is it to convert to a points ign. sys. ? any generic voltage regulators ?
K301S 47371C TIA !

You need an ignition switch, coil and bracket, points and cover and two screws and a push rod. Knock out the push rod plug in the block. Probably missed something but that will get you started.

Ive never worked on a Kohler K301 that
DIDN'T have points. I have worked on the
MAGNUM series single cylinder cast iron
engines in equal HP to the K series that
had a magneto style of electronic ignition.
Is that what you mean?

Hi Don check the Kohler manuals they indeed did come out with a breakerless ignition system in about 1968 on engines with the 15 amp alternator system but they dropped the system sometime in the 70's and went back to the battery/points system, the breakerless system is covered in SB 55 and the conversion to battery ignition is covered with Kit 237750-S

I have a K301 in my Case 222 that has a starter generator. I went through a couple of Voltage Regulators but the new ones seem to be of poor quality. I posted on YT for some ideas and one reply sent a picture of a successful hookup using a motorcycle VR. The particular unit is model # 74504-78 and is available on amazon. I got one and hooked it up and it works just super because it is solid state. Here is the pic sent by Doug-Iowa :

Hey thats pretty cool! Will that work with any Delano S/G? I have IH Cub Cadets and the VRs from India or wherever suck. Where does the red wire go?

There are a lot of home-brew replacement ignition systems for Tecumseh
engines, primarily the HH100. The Tecumseh unit is NLA anywhere.
Most recent versions use a Ford F150 antilock brake sensor and a
GM HEI unit.

It shouldn't be that difficult to adapt the concept to a Kohler engine.

Why mess around with some home brew that may or may not last converting the K301s to battery/point ignition is simple and will last of ever, as for the Tecumseh's with SSI there is an aftermarket plug and play ignition unit designed for them and it will last forever
