Electric Fuel pump for old 10 HP Kohler?

You will be fine with a 4-7 psi pump. Used them on many small engines mainly for two reasons.
1. Easier to find and get locally.
2. Most times they are cheaper to buy.

I recently bought the 4-7# for my boat recently on ebay...about $16 with free shipping and fast shipping.

A few years back, I installed an electric pump on my lawn tractor; a Ford LGT-165, 16 HP Kohler. I don't use the tractor that much, mainly in the fall on the left vacuum. I installed an inline shut off valve and a switch on the electric pump. My objective was to be able to store the tractor with the fuel bowl empty. I simply turn the fuel pump off, turn the inline fuel valve to off and allow the engine to run out of fuel, then turn off the ignition. The engine is now ready for storage. At the next start up I allow the electric pump 10 seconds to fill the bowl then crank up the engine. I find it works to my satisfaction.

Now, in 2017 I changed from the Kohler carburetor to a new after market replacement. I found the engine would run very rich and the plug was colored completely black. I replaced the first electric pump (Mr Gasket # 12S which I tested at 6 PSI shutoff pressure) with a Facet # 60304 rated at 1 - 2 PSI output pressure. This cured the rich running and the plug has colored a nice light tan ever since. Ref: www.facet-purolator.com/posi-flo-pumps

Findings report, disassembly of the Kohler carburetor found a light spring under the float helping to push the float in the closing direction. The replacement carburetor did not use this spring. It is my conclusion without the help of the spring the replacement carburetor could not shut off properly against the 6 PSI pressure level.

Note, for a gravity flow fuel system, the pressure is approximately 0.31 PSI for each foot of height of gasoline from the carburetor inlet to the fuel level in the tank. It would be my recommendation to go with the lower pressure pump for any gravity flow system.
