Old Briggs Stratton Engine HP And age

I have an old vertical B&S engine on a Dynamark Lawn Tractor. Checking the numbers and the fact that it did run it may be a pretty good engine. I can't find the horse
power and date from the numbers but am hoping someone with more smarts can tell me?? The model # is 251707, Type is #0166-02 and code is #76091012. Any help will be
appreciated. I am finding that most of these old engines don't really wear out and die, but just don't work mostly from poor care and storage?Cleddy
 
Thanks for the quick answer. That sheds a whole new light on what I thought was junk. I have 3- 8 hp engines that run but are a little small. 10 hp would be better on riding mower. I put a new 12 hp on a 36 mower and nothing would stop it-But the belts didn't take the tall grass. Cleddy
