Oil filters

Has anyone used ACDelco filters on lawn equipment? I see they are somewhat cheaper than Wix, are they no as good? We have a Husqvarna and a JD that use the same filter.

I quit being a fan of ACDelco filters when I found that the car filters no longer have drain back valves in them. But they used to have them! (I use NAPA gold filters in my cars and trucks now.)

That means the engine starts up and runs dry for a few seconds every time until the oil pump can fill the oil filter (if it is side mounted) and only then push oil to the bearings. With oil in the filter it doesn't take nearly as long for the bearings to begin getting oil. And it is no different on small engines.

Yes, I find that the JD filters from local dealer are cheaper that any other filter from farm stores and big box stores.
Amazon also, plus usually have to pay shipping. I use same filter on JD x590 and also on a cub cadet 129.
Air filters, same story.
I mentioned that to the sales people at dealership. They know. They want the traffic into dealership and want to be competitive with the aftermarket stores.

Thanks! The lack of a Anti-drain back valve is why I quite using Fram filters years ago, and I sure liked the non skid coating on them! We don't have a JD dealer handy so we just ordered Wix online, we have Amazon prime so no shipping. I never did find an application chart for ACDelco filters for anything but highway vehicles.

I quit using the Fram and AC filters a number of years ago. The Napa guys will tell you that their Gold filters are actually made by Wix and it's a buck cheaper than Wix. I look at filters like no matter what the cost they are cheap insurance against engine failure so what the heck.

I also use Mobil 1 extended range oil in the mowers and all other air-cooled engines. Buy it at Walmart in the 5 qt jug and save on that too.

Yes, I just bought a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 for $24, and it looks like I will get a $15 rebate! It wasn't advertised, but I went online and found it.
