Have a Cub Cadet LTX1046KW with a Kawasaki FR651V engine. Oil is shooting out the left side of the exhaust and smokes so you can;t see when running. My thought is rings on left cylinder. Is this a do it myself job or should I replace engine. If I am wrong on my guess I won;t be offended if a wiser than me can guide me with their wisdom.

Wow, that's too bad! How old is this mower, and how many hours on it? Did this start all at once? We have a Husqvarna with a Kawasaki that is over 20 years old, still runs like new, has about 600 hours on it.

Have you pulled the dipstick to check if you have way too much in there? If you have gas in the oil, that is the cheapest repair for oil 'shooting out the exhaust' I know of. Everything else- bad rings, scored cylinder make any repair expensive very quickly.

The left side is the lower cylinder (#2) on a Kawasaki and that cylinder usually starts passing oil/gas first.

Check that the cylinder head gasket on that side isn't blown in the area where the pushrods go through the head.

2013 216 hours on the meter. I have a Kohler out of a cub cadet 1517 17hp would that fit and line up with the belts or am I wishful thinking?

If you decide you need kawasaki paerts I have good luck in the past with pats small engines, Isanti, Mn. The website address with have psep.biz in the name.

Depends on which Kohler engine you have. Courage. Stick with the Kawasaki. Command good replacement. But you need to check all of the cables, fuel line, wiring and a few other things before you swap to see that they will route and connect properly. Such as the key switch. It may not work with the Kohler engine. Output shaft on the engine for both being the same size and length If not the drive and PTO pulleys may not align correctly.
