My Case 644 is showing discharge on the ammeter(pegging the ammeter on the discharge side) with the engine running. I have tried to switch the wires leading to the ammeter with no change. The rest of the wiring seems to be complete according to the wiring diagram that I have. This tractor was showing discharge on the ammeter prior to having the starter/generator rebuilt. so how do I test the voltage regulator for proper operation.

If you switched all of the wires from
side to side and nothing changed it is
either not wired correctly or the ammeter
is defective. With these type questions
it helps to know if this issue started
while you have owned it or was it way
from day one? I would start out by
checking the battery voltage while
running to see if it is actually
discharging or not.

Butch - I checked the battery today 12.38 volts before starting. After starting 12.36 volts. With the ammeter still showing discharge. I'm beginning to think I have a bad regulator. So I will be looking far a source of supply for the regulator. As stated before the starter/generator was recently rebuilt.
