Honda rider opinions

I need a new mower. My my mechanic has advised me not to fix my old one. I would rather buy something good used than shiny new junk. My wife has found an ad for a used Honda HT 3813. It's smaller than what I had but Honda has a good reputation for quality. 38 deck, 13 horse liquid cooled twin, 5 speed transmission. Anybody know if these were good? Thanks, Rob

They 'were' very good mowers. Most of them are 20 years old or more and they are very expensive to repair when you do have to repair something.

They usually run until something major fails, like the timing belt and then they are junked. I have never given an estimate on a timing belt repair and had the customer o.k. the repair. They don't understand that you have to disconnect the drive shaft and pull the engine and radiator from the chassis to get access to the timing belt.
