1968 Cub Cadet 72 PTO issue

Hi everyone, first post here. I have a 1968 CC72 tractor that I use for mowing. I've owned it for about 2 months and love it. I am having an issue with the PTO/deck blades that I hope someone can help me with. The PTO worked fine up until a couple weeks ago, at which time it intermittently disengages and stops cutting. The deck belt is routed correctly and the previous owner installed a new PTO clutch right before he sold the tractor to me. It's pretty frustrating; I'll be mowing, then the tractor will just stop cutting. If I stop, manually disengage the PTO with the handle, let it sit for a minute, and re-engage it, it will cut again for a short while before stopping again. What's strange to me is when it stops, the pulleys and deck belt are still spinning like it's engaged. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd pull the deck out from under the tractor, turn it over, and make sure the
fasteners that hold the blades to the spindles are tight. You may have something
else wrong, but I have experience with the more strange mechanical problems.

In addition, the PO may have not installed the PTO correctly, and not make the proper adjustments, both internal & external.

If the spindles are spinning and the blades aren't, there can only be 1 problem. The blades are loose. I just put a new
set of blades on a deck last fall and the center blade quit cutting shortly thereafter. Come to find out, the new
blades were a hair thinner than the original. I added a thin shim to all 3 and it has been mowing great since.
