Nice Looking Honda Mower

A neighbor put his Honda Mower by the curve for free. Apparently he thought the problem was the coil & spark plug so bought a new one and that didn't solve the problem so he discarded it with the extra parts. Besides fuel in the tank and oil what should I look at? Seems that spark was the concern so that is first thing on the search. Over the years I have seen very few small engines there wasn't some life in them??Cleddy

In order for an engine to run, it needs spark, fuel, and compression. Have you determined if it has spark? If so, does it have fuel and compression? Does it have all these things at the proper time? If you have spark, I would check flywheel key.

Don't know on a Honda engine but I have had more then one engine shut down parts on the old B/S engine go bad and cause a no spark condition so if it is like the B/S set up I'd pull the wire at the shut down. The mower I use has the shut down wire sticking out to the side and when I need to shut it off I short the wire to ground

I had a Honda that the stud that holds the carburetor/intake on broke. It wouldn't run a lick.

Well, if it is spark, that is easy to test for.

I am guessing it is a push mower/self propel?

On those, 99 % of their problems is fuel. And unless the carburetor is really badly gunked up, you can clean it up, put it back together and it will start right up.

(Most of the other 1% is automatic choke trouble.)

A follow up- I decided enough projects waiting so got after this Honda 22 hydrostatic walk behind mower. A weak spark with the old plug and nothing on choke & jerking the rope. Removed a new air filter and gave it a shot of ether and it fired right up and runs fine at idle and high RPM. Seems to be a little hard starting but last 2 trys were better.

I was going to ask if there is any adjustment on the coil& ignition system but now thinking some fresh gas and hard use might be in order. When I got this a couple months ago coming out of winter sometimes it take a little extra juice to fire up?? Cleddy
