Mower deck blows Fuse

Cub Cadet 2135HDS:

1. When I turn on the PTO (mower deck) the 15A fuse under the console burns up. Last summer this happened occasionally under heavy load, now this happens all the time: high/low throttle, hot/cold engine, heavy/light load, etc. Mower might turn on for 5 seconds before fuse burns up.

2. I replaced the PTO clutch on the front of the engine today. Voltage at the clutch electrical switch line (engine on, clutch unplugged) is 0V when PTO is off, 14v when the PTO is on. As soon as the electrical line is connected to the clutch (ie, normal wiring), the fuse burns up in the PTO on state.

3. Typical answer with these symptoms seems to be that there's an electrical short. I don't see anything obvious though, and it also seems weird that there'd be an electrical fault when I have the appropriate 0v,14v voltages when the clutch is unplugged.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Pointers to the wiring diagram for the 2135 would also be great!

Have you set the electric clutch clearance? If it is too wide, I think it draws too much power and then blows
your fuse. Could be wrong....

Might want to check how tight the fuse fits in the holder. Any loose terminals in the circuit will cause heat. That heat will melt the fuse. The closer the loose connection is to the fuse, the quicker it will melt.

If you grab the fuse soon after it fails, a blown fuse will not feel hot. A melted one will.

Tell me more please. I figured the clutch was just remove and replace. Should there have been shims? There was no adjustment visible aside from torqueing the bolt holding the assembly on down to 50ft-lbs.

Hopefully this will be of some value. You will need to pick the correct diagram based on the serial number of the tractor.

Are there other bolts withs springs on
the
Clutch assembly? If so, you use a feeler
gauge, maybe 0.015, to set by tightening
the bolts.
