Mowing deck problem

I have a cub cadet model LT 1042 mower that the electric clutch for the deck cuts off randomly. Sometimes I can mow two hours or more before it starts to cut off. Other times it may cut off several times in thirty minutes. Push pto switch in, pull it out and blades start back. No set pattern for it to occur.

Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions

Check battery, switch, all connections, especially grounds. Cutting off indicates low or no voltage usually. Could be a clutch coil too, but they rarely come back on until they cool. Some have an adjustment for clutch clearance, but I don't think that one does, but you may check.

In addition to what was said, check whatever interlock switches it may have. Some may have under the seat, some may have something to do with reverse where you have to push or hold a button while backing...

I am thinking those models are not supposed to allow mowing in reverse. So every time you back up, the blades cut off and you have to turn them back on again. I am thinking you will find a broken wire or a bare wire on the switch on the drive linkage back at the transmission. When that wire shorts to any of the metal parts, the blades will cut off. Its probably a yellow wire and goes to a set of contacts on the right side of the transmission.

Well, you're gonna laugh at this, but I always spray a good healthy dose of PB Blaster down inside the push-pull switches, and inside the key switches, of all my mowers and tractors. I believe the PB lubricates, removes corrosion, removes moisture, smoothes things out, PREVENTS moisture and corrosion. It works for me.

On my neighbors 318 Deere, the deck is always disengaging when his niece runs it because she is not heavy enough to keep the seat safety switch depressed.
