John Deere 318 detent

I have 318 John Deere lawn tractor and the detent on the snow blower side does not work. Took it apart and the springs are gone. Cannot get individual parts from John Deere and they want over $300 for the kit. Was wondering if there is any place to get parts for it.
Thanks for any info.

IF I'm looking correctly, the little spring is #E41822, and the balls are #A4742R, all readily available from DEERE.

Who told you they weren't?

Looking again, I see there were 3 styles of valves used, by serial number.

Looks like parts are mostly available for all, if yours is the latest serial number it's the highest $$$ to fix, if you just need the balls and springs (plugs come with) the part number is AM116601, takes 2, cost is some $20 each.

Care to post your serial number?

I was told from the Deere dealer that they weren't available. I will have to check again. I could get the kit that is available, but that is almost as much as the tractor is worth. Thanks for the info.

(quoted from post at 16:37:13 01/14/21) My serial number is M00318X014130.

Below is a link to the parts lookup page showing the serial number ranges for the 3 versions of the valve.

They started over with serial #10,001 in 1990, looks like your #014130 was made that year and takes the AM116601 kit X 2, Key #12 (Spring, Key #10 is not available separately.)

Some $40, not cheap but better than $300 for the kit (Key #17).
