Tecumseh replacement engine

I have a Craftsman Chipper/Vac that has a Tecumseh engine on it. the only numbers I could find are 143.944004 32510, it is tagged as a Craftsman Eager 1 motor 4 HP. It has a 1" shaft 2 ¾" projection from the bottom with a ¼" key 2 ¼" long. Everything I am finding in that HP range is ⅞" or 25mm and longer shaft projection. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement for this Chipper/Vac

I looked at Harbor Freight, the shaft is only ⅞ and I need 1" dia. I don't know if a bushing could be made with a key slot, would be awful thin. Shaft length is too long, but I could fab a spacer and make that work. I will try Small Engine Whse tomorrow. Thanks to all.

There is such a thing as a 7/8" to 1" shaft adapter. A quick search found them on Amazon and on Ebay. The key is also a 'trick' part, it is rectangle in cross section rather than a typical square key.

That said, I am guessing the chopper assembly or pulley is retained by a bolt in the end of the crank? There could be more risk of the item coming off the crankshaft since it has a sleeve inside of it. If it isn't retained by a bolt/washer in the end of the crank, it would be a good idea to secure it and the adapter to the crank with green loctite-sleeve and bearing formula. Just be aware that when you have to remove it again, you will have to heat the assembly to break the loctite bond.

Thanks for the information on the shaft adaptors. I did not know they were readily available. It is held on by a bolt in bottom of shaft as it is a direct drive, impeller bolted to shaft.

If the shaft is too long, they are easy to cut. Of course the bolt hole may need to be drilled and tapped deeper, but that should be easier than fabbing a spacer. That and an adapter sleeve with the special key should open up a lot of options.

Welcome to the world of Craftsman were everything is an odd size and nothing interchanges! Dad was a Snapper dealer for years and would not touch or trade a Craftsman.

If you can find an adapter or have a machine shop make you one is going to be about your only option. The shaft can be sawed off easy. They are about as hard as a grade five bolt. I have cut off several with just a plain hack saw.
