Ford LGT 125 trans noise

So the old Ford which has been on this place since new is beginning to sound louder in the hydrostatic transmission. Always shows the proper fluid level and I change fluid and filter every three or four years, Any ideas on the culprit? Also gonna' do a ring job on it this winter, not sure about the ring sets I see on Ebay or if I should bite the bullet and buy the much higher priced ones from Kohler...

Personally I would use genuine Kohler internal engine parts rather than some cheap no name Chinese parts. Unless the aftermarket rings are from a quality brand such as Hastings. Just my opinion and I have rebuilt many old Kohler engines.

Frank , check out Isavetractors you tube , Guys name is Norman , and He does a lot of Kohler parts , maybe even call him
Good Luck

Those transaxles are inherently noisy. I have had my LGT125 for over 35 years and it has always howled; especially when under heavy load.
I have wheel weights, a heavy weight box and chains. I built a heavy duty 48" blade for it and I use it mostly for plowing snow. I also have done quite a lot of "dozing" with it as well. Howls like the devil but just keeps going on and on.

About 10 years ago or so, I bought many OEM parts on ebay including rods, pistons, rings and valves for rebuilding 12, 14 and 16 HP Kohlers I own. I haven't looked there for a few years now so don't know whether or not they show up anymore.
I agree with J Hamilton; use high quality parts......they are fine engines and deserve the best.

Thanks for the info guys. That is a real good channel Wayne, lots of good info and I now have it bookmarked. Teardown is a month or so off so I won't find out what I need for a while yet...
