I think I have a crankshaft seal leaking behind the flywheel. Can that seal be driven in without removing the timing
cover? I'm trying to figure out what parts I need before tearing it apart. I worked the starter over a couple of months
ago and it was full of oily, greasy dirt and grass and the bottom of the blower housing is too.

Its been a while since I overhauled mine, but I am thinking you can put the seal in without removing the timing cover. Just be aware that plastic ring with the magnet in it is right there. $$ if you break it. You will probably have to remove it and the flywheel key and also maybe the
'trigger' or pickup coil.

Go over to Smokstak Onan manual section. Manual 965-0762 page 6-2. Fig 3A. It will show you the crankcase breather. If the pad is clogged it will pump out oil anywhere it can. It is just a wad of mesh you can wash out. The front seal can be changed if you are careful.
