I have a Briggs and Stratton 26HP, ELS-725 #446777 -02YYE1- Code 031222YG that makes a high pitch screaming sound when it runs, and that's at all speeds. I decided to tear into it thinking that something was rubbing on the plastic somewhere. I took the cover off and all looked good. I then took the air filter out exposing the crankcase breather tube. I pulled the sparkplug out and cranked it over and the noise was the vibration of the reeds in the crankcase breather! As I turned it over with the starter the louder it got. I had another breather on a tired short block so I swapped them out thinking that would fix it. No change! This engine doesn't smoke, runs great, maybe a little lean so I just put some seafoam in the fuel. This is the only one of these I've ever run across so have no knowledge of what to expect. Are these problematic? I looked on the B&S websight and this is supposed to be a "PROFESSIONAL SERIES" that will last 40% longer than a standard Briggs. Opinions anyone? (This is a Craftsman engine, by the way)
