John Deere 216 reliability

Well, our 318 has bit the dust and there is still grass to mow this summer. Began browsing craigslist one day and came across this. I know that the 318 is very reliable and is fairly simple to repair compared to more modern models of lawn mowers. Would a 216 be similar in reliability and ease of maintenance? Is there a significant power difference?
And would this be a fair deal if it was priced somewhere in the range of 1-2 k? Where would you fellas price this at?
Thanks for the input,
Elijah.

A 216 with a bad engine should be down around $200.
Those tractors are more durable and reliable than the 318, but not nearly as easy on the driver.
A good 16 hp replacement engine is the hard to find unless you want to spend big money.
You can replace that bad engine with a K241 at 10 hp, a K301 at 12 hp, a K 321 at 14 hp.
Any of those engines will pull the tractor and run the deck.

Weak points on that line of tractor are the rear hubs (check for wobble by jacking the back end up)
and the variator ( it needs to be running to do that.

So I did some research on fitment of the k241 onto the JD318.
I cant find any details on any swaps. Do the mounting holes on the engine line up directly with the holes in the frame for the engine?
Fuel lines are pretty straight forward, air is simple, drive shaft probably wouldn't be any challenge to adapt, is there anything else that has to be adapted that would be a potential problem?

I found a k241 missing a carb and fuel tank for $250. A carb on ebay is $15.
