Just read that Briggs & Stratton has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
Briggs & Stratton Corp. has filed for bankruptcy protection and agreed to sell its assets to KPS Capital Partners LP as the company, a maker of small engines, has faced declining sales and losses due to the nnalert-19 pandemic
I wonder how many more companies will fall

B&S has been going down hill for years. This nnalert-19 stuff. Just gives them an excuse.I have a Honda pump unit on the feed truck. Six years no problems. The B&S pump unit is always being worked on. I have two mowers I am always working on. If other people can build an engine. Why can't B&S.

When we first started seeing small engines coming out of China they were junk. And everybody knew it. They aren't junk anymore.

They paid their executive management a total of five million dollars in bonuses right before the end of their fiscal year and then missed a six and one
half million dollar interest payment a month later. Hmmm!

Sad news. The company that pioneered lots of innovations in small motor production can't compete. I went to their plant
in Wisconsin in the late 90's. Great folks and at that time a really busy place.

Wondering who will be honoring their generator warranties after this? I put a 12kw at the house last August and it has
(had?) a 7-year warranty.

Yikes!!

(quoted from post at 17:51:22 07/21/20) I would not worry about warranties or parts or anything else as a consumer..
They are reorganizing and it will be virtually no different than before.
If I had anything built by B&S that was under warranty I would be worried from what I've read this is not just a reorganization B&S has been sold to a Capital Investment outfit this are notorious for cutting customers off at the knees.

(quoted from post at 08:31:03 07/22/20) If the Capital investment company buys it only to liquidate, then yes.
But this article appears to say the first bidder (KPS) is looking to make B&S survive in the market.
Of course they could be just hot air until the buyer has full control to do whatever the want.

Thanks for the link very interesting article lets hope the company makes a new start and keeps going

as a dealer for them, they are basically trying to get out of the ztr market and just keep the engines which has been there thing.they are
trying to find buyer for the ferris, simplicity, snapper snapper pro and massey label name mowers. they have put the selling on hold till this
19 thing gets out of news

I own at least 18 smAll engines all but three are B&S. I have had.very little trouble with them. Some date back to the early 70's.

I have a man on my feed run. Has a B&S that he bought in 1990. Oil change every year. New plug and air filter. Try and take it from him. You would be in one heck of a fight.

The two I have I am always having to drain water from them. I filter the gas when it goes in. Let them set a few days. Water in the carb. I hate plastic carbs.
