I have a 318 too. And the battery light stays on mostly when the pto is on. I check it occasionally with a volt meter and its always putting over 13v. across the battery posts, so I don't worry about it.

Start checking voltage with a multimeter.

There are several problems that can cause that light to stay on.
Low battery, need 12.5 volts or better with the engine turned off.
Failing or failed alternator or voltage regulator, need 13.5 volts or better with engine running.

There is a troubleshooting process described on the WFMachines website.

Rectifier/voltage regulator in engine cowling determines charging voltage, and it's monitored by a circuit in the Time Delay Module, which turns the battery light on if it senses low voltage.

First thing to do is check voltage output at rectifier/regulator.

If adequate it's either a wiring/connector problem, a ground problem, or a defective Time Delay Module that's turning on the battery light in error.

Check all grounds starting at rectifier/regulator. Some guys run a ground wire from one of it's mounting bolts to a GOOD ground, just to be sure.

Battery (-) post, engine, chassis, and ground wire to the Time Delay Module all have to be at the same ground potential, with no poor connections for the TDM voltage sensing circuit to work properly.

IIRC, DEERE made wiring harness changes at a certain serial number to better keep everything at the same ground potential.

Of course, poor connections can develop on the (+)/charging side of the wiring, as well.

Check the gap on your electric clutch....018 for most of them. I had one so wide on my 430, if I turned on the lights, the deck would quit. Set the gap, all was good and still is.
