Jacobsen chief 6

Back in February I posted that I got a 1961-62 Jacobsen Chief 6 with a blade, but no deck. I got a lot of help identifying it for which I was grateful. About a month ago, my wife and I were taking a walk in neighborhood and 2 blocks from my house I spy a Jacobsen yard dump cart that looks to be the same vintage as the tractor. The guy had got it for his kids to play with. They pulled behind their trycycle. I went back after we got home and asked the fellow if I could buy it or trade for something. He said sure, they'll just ruin it anyway! I traded a John Deere pedal tractor cart for it that I'd had for several years. The kids were happy because it worked a lot better to haul things. We were all grinning when I took it home. Has anyone ever seen one of these? A search of every sight I could think of yielded no results.
Thanks, Irv

Thank you. I was happy to get it. I found a brochure on a Google search that shows the tractor. I think it was T.R.K. that thought it might a cheaper model and he was right Someone else mentioned that it was a nice restoration, but it's all original paint and parts, as near as I can tell. I still have to do some cleaning on the wheels and I might touch up the back wheel thats rusty part way around. I'm going to try and get some of the surface rust out of the inside of the cart, but that's all. Going to be a fun unit at swap meets, if we ever have one!!

Good find on the cart. I had a Sears garden tractor years ago that looked almost identical to yours. It was the same
colors, different steering wheel, had a 6 horse Tecumseh engine and an aluminum ?? or some kind of cast mower deck. Was a
good running, mowing machine.

I hear you on swap meets. Very dissapointing summer. I just got word that we also won't have an air show at Willow Run in August. We were due to have the Blue Angles.

Sorry for the long gap in the replies. Been really busy and its HOT here. Not like you Arizona folks, but hot enough to put me out of commission.
As you know, Jacobsen made the ones we all know about, Ford, Ollie, M&M, etc., but I don't know if they made anything for the catalog stores or not. If I remember right, Gilson made some stuff for Wards and Sears, maybe J.C. Penny. Here's a pic of the front of the tractor. Sure looks like a Minnie Moe. The front is just a sheet metal plate bolted in with 2, 1/4" bolts.

That front bracket is the same one as on my 1971 Ford. It is used to carry the belt driven gearbox for the Haban 4' sickle bar mower that I bought at the same time. That was when I found out the my Ford was a Jacobsen. Whenever I needed wear parts I called the local Jake dealer and the local Ford dealer to see who had it cheaper.
My future projects in the barn: 5 Fords, 4 Jakes, 1 MM and 1 White.
