Re: Alamo mott flail mower

You might check with www.flailmaster.com
in Murfreesboro TN. They are very
knowledgeable had parts to help me get a
72" 3pt Mott fine cut back to cutting.

I have a rare,(to me anyway), Mott flail mower. It is a push mower with about a 24" cut and a Clinton engine on it.
It was sold new by the local IH dealer in the 50's to a farmer.

Here's the one we have! 2 cylinder Wisconsin, makes nice walking trails!

Forgot to say that I also have a modified CLB 60 series Mott Flail mower on the 3 point hitch of my 650 John Deere compact diesel. I added swiveling gauge wheels to the front and made a floating 3rd link connection for the mower top link so it follows the contour of the ground being mowed much better by resting on the gauge wheels in the front and the big roller on the back of it. Unless it is a sharp turn I don't have to lift, it swivels around most corners. The last time I needed flails I got them from R&R, a golf course equipment supplier.

This is my second Mott flail mower. The first one was on an IH Cub 154 lowboy. The tractor was a total P.O.S. but the mower was fine. Flail mowers are the kind of thing you either love or hate.

Years ago when I was setting up my Mott flail mower I talked with an engineer at Alamo Mfg. Co.that owns Mott and
he told me the drum needs to turn about 2,200 rpm and if it is not whistling when running it is not fast enough.
I was changing a reverse turning CLB 60 series setup for the cub 154 lowboy with the 1,800 rpm pto into a regular
set up for using with my 650 John Deere and wanted to know the drive pulley diameter for it. It whistles now and
has cut very good for the last 30 or so years. I have had to replace a couple of bearings on it and one set of
blades.
