I keep blowing out voltage regulators on my Case 222. My last VR was a mechanical one in which my generator guy replaced the vr section with an electronic one but kept the mechanical cut-out relay there. At first I thought that my wiring was faulty, but I've checked the wiring diagram and everything is in order. Is there something unique or special about these Voltage Regulators in these Case tractors?

The mechanical VR would have the Amp meter bouncing all around and then finally it was in constant discharge. This last VR with the electronics would charge nicely at start up at about 14 amps and as the revs increased it would reduce to a very steady 2 to 5 amps. After about a week of doing its job nicely, the electronics blew and the amp meter showed over charging the battery (20 to 30 amps) until the battery boiled over.

The DELCO regulator used in Kohler powered Case tractors IS unique. Unlike most regulators that have three connection points, the Case
regulators have a 4th point on the underside of them. In addition, it is imperative that the regulator be mounted to the frame of the tractor to
ensure an excellent grounding if the regulator frame.
