K321S Value

I have a chance to buy a complete, running K321S Kohler engine. I have no idea what it came off of. Seller says he has it set up in his shop, ready to run. He inherited it from an uncle 5 years ago. He had planned to use the motor himself, but his plans fell through, and now wants to sell it. I really have no use for it, I just want it. I have an MF14 with a rebuilt K321. Any idea of it's value? Thanks Greg

Value would depend upon output shaft length and diameter, and type of crankcase/base/mount.

If it's in really good operating condition and has a desirable configuration for what's in demand in your area (and wasn't a "buddy deal") I could see it bringing $500 to $800, or even more.

Figure $250 to $400 max and as post configuration means everything

Rebuild parts for ALL K-series Kohler engines have increased tremendously the last 12-15 years since I
rebuilt K321 for my model 72 Cub Cadet. Had to make it a small flywheel K321, the normal large flywheel
and cooling shroud don't begin to fit in earlier narrow frame CC tractors. About 5 years later I did a
standard rebuild on a K241, parts prices, OEM Kohler parts, had about DOUBLED. I put lots of STENS parts
in the K241. I suspect engine parts prices have DOUBLED again.
If that K321 is some popular spec number, like for Cub Cadets, maybe Wheel Horses, I could see a
rebuild costing $1000 or more now.

I paid [b:1db8c846b3]WELL[/b:1db8c846b3] over that to have the K321 rebuilt for my MF14. Spec #60150d. As the saying goes, "Those that can do. Those that can't, pay those that can." The price included machining, parts, and labor. A LOT OF NEW PARTS ! I think I have decided that $450 is just too much to pay for something I really have no use for. But then again, I have over 40 fishing poles. No one has a use for 40 fishing poles either.
