the battery went dead while i was mowing with my Husqvarna, i removed the battery and charged it up, it has held its charge now for a couple of days,
my question is about the charging system on this motor and how does it work,is the starter and generator on of the same and how do you test its
output? thanks for any help, farm al.

I have five years of fiddling with a charging system on an unnamed green machine
turned out to be a faulty connection, the one i did not service with all the others.
A Stator puts out AC voltage should be a minimum of about 30
A voltage regulator/rectifier changes it to DC should be somewhere between 13.5 to 14.5
Most often, but not always, it is a dirty connector somewhere. Check with a voltage tester.
You tuber has a lot of good advice from many sources.

I just had to change the rectifier on 26 hp Vanguard V twin becausse it was not keeping the battery charged.

The charging circuit is low powered and is designed to keep a charged battery charged. If the battery is full and the engine is up over say a thousand rpms the voltage will be up around 14.5V. If you had a hard time starting the machine and were on the starter quite a bit and finally get it running, that voltage could be down around 13V or so. As you mow it will charge back up. If the charging circuit is not functioning the battery voltage will be less than 13V....a new, fully charged battery around here runs about 12.7V, so that is the highest voltage you could see.

If you have been mowing with things working properly and you shut down the machine and check the voltage immediately, it will be above 12.7 but letting it sit awhile the chemical solution will stabilize down to the actual charge voltage level.
