(quoted from post at 20:51:49 03/30/20) My battery charge light is staying on. Any ideas to trouble shoot this?

Thanks

Check for loose, damaged, or burned connections at the rectifier/voltage regulator that mounts in the top of the cooling shroud around the flywheel, and at the 3-wire connector that connects the engine to the chassis harness.

Check that the rectifier/regulator mounting is clean and tight to the sheet metal. Some guys even run a new ground wire from a rectifier/regulator mounting bolt to the chassis to ensure a good ground.

Check the DC voltage output of regulator (white/red wire) with the engine running above idle. Should be in the 13.8 to 14.7 Volt range.

Post back with the results, if voltage is in range, we can look at other issues downstream, if voltage is below "spec." the output voltage of the stator can be checked, if OK that would point to a rectifier/regulator problem.

All the time, or just with some combination of accessories running?
There are a couple of problems common to tractors with an electric PTO.
The electric PTO can start shorting out, drawing more current that it should and draining the battery.
PTO should have around 4 ohms resistance.
If it gets worse, the PTO can take all the current and stop the engine.

If that part checks out:
Verify actual voltage with a multimeter.
With the engine running, the charging system should be putting out around 13 1/2 volts.
With the engine shut off, the battery should hold at least 12 volts.

always check the wire connections from clutch also, did this just start or been going on, rest is like steve from mo said

Have you actually put a meter on the battery posts and checked what it is actually doing?

My 318 used to light the charge light about 10 minutes into mowing, but a meter said the voltage was staying well above 13v. I think something in the black box under the dash was overheating and causing the light to come on.
