Cub Cadet 1863 engage PTO alternator stops working

Charging system works fine except when the PTO is engaged and the alternator light comes on and the system stops charging.
Any thoughts where to start ?

Is this electric PTO? If so I would look for a short in the wiring to
the pto-shorted to the frame of the tractor.
If not electric PTO then look for wires rubbing on tbe PTO shaft.
If this is new problem since winter probably a mouse chewed up some
wiring.

Everything Dave mentioned is a possibility.

Another thing is to check your clutch resistance. It should be 2 to about 5 ohms. If its below 2 ohms the clutch winding is shorted and that
will cause it to draw way more current than it is supposed to normally. A load like this can overload the charging system and cause the
light to come on because the clutch is using all the energy the alternator is producing.

Thanks Dave, I have checked all that you suggested , all good.

Locate the voltage regulator on the engine. (2 same colored wires, one white).

Loosen one of the screws that secures it to the engine. Attach a wire to the screw and ground it to the frame. Do not attach it to the battery.

Start the engine and let it run for a minute. Check to see if it is now charging when the PTO is engaged.
