JD 110 Round Fender Gas Tank

I needed a different gas tank for a JD 110 bought, had it steamed out but still has rust. I bought one on line and was told came off a 110 but was 1/2" wider than the old one. The sides of the hood rubs when I close it. Wish I would have known that before I bought it. Do those tank liquid liners work?

I never did a small engine tank, but had pretty good success with Red Coat sealer in tractor tanks. You really need to get all the rust out that you can. There are several videos on Youtube doing that to motorcycle tanks. Most use some kind of 'etch' to remove as much rust as possible before they put the sealer in.

Just plan to let it set for something like a week and dry before you install and put the gas in. Alcohol in the gas does leech some of the red out of the sealer.

On a small tank like that get some works toilet bowl cleaner from the dollar store and fill it up. That will eat all the rust out. Check it every so often. Trick is too get it dry without rerusting. Rinse it good and then put something like wd40 in there and coat it. Then blow it out with the air hose and try to get all the moisture out. Then before coating clean the oil out with lacquer thinner. Did a couple of small tanks like this before.
