What's the secret lube to keep it working? I don't use the old tractor over about five hours a year and every two or three years I have to relube it. I use powdered graphite but there must be something better, ain't much fun taking those belts off.

There is black graphite and also white graphite. The white stuff is used for reloading ammunition. Very slick tough stuff. If you push the clutch down and lock it down. Push the manual handle front till everything is relaxed. Then looking through the top you should be able to move that disk back and forth. Just dust it with graphite powder and work it in. Can you do that? I know that shaft can get a little groove in it over the years. You can also get a bottle of speedo cable lube. Graphite with a little liquid in it. Penetrates better. Here are the three high grade lubes on Ebay. That Molybdenum stuff is a soft metal. Really amazing stuff.

I got the belts off so I can spin and slide the sheave, what works best, but not for long is a small drop of oil. I like that variator system when it works but can't believe very many people are going to crawl under there to keep them working. Same thing with grease zerks, must be a dozen and tough to get to even with the front jacked way up.

For Jeffcat; Good evening! I have had a Deere 212 for several years. Does the same apply that you recommended for the OP's 110? I want to get a few more seasons from this machine. Thanks much!

New parts are extremely expensive, and if your center sheave wobbles at all,
you will need to lube it every couple of months.
I have had good luck taking a variator to a machine shop for a rebuild.
They can cut the hub smooth and straight and bore a new bushing for the center sheave.

I don't see why not. The lubrication I posted is used on military equipment
too. One other product I use and forgot to mention. Try some motorkote. I found
out about it from a trucker friend. The stuff is amazing on threaded things
that crank down hard like the threads in a vice. Also where compression and
sheer is experienced. Works fantastic in firearms too. You can find it in the
auto section of any Walmart. A little expensive but you need very little.
Actually on Saturdays and some sundays the owner is on trucker radio. 700AM
out of Cincinnati, oh.late in the evening into the early morning. Worked
wonders in a noisy power steering pump. Couple of caps full and took a few
miles. Next thing you know the pump is almost totally quiet. Another 100k with
not troubles. Just try a few drops onto that shaft the pulley slides back and
forth on. I just was thinking dry lubes. This stuff a couple of drops just
might do it. No bs this stuff really works.
