I have been working on restoring a 1942 Briggs and Stratton model i lawn mower and have been running into some problems.
I have the engine rebuilt except for the cooling shroud is still off of the motor. I was unable to obtain an original style magneto (coil)that works off the old points system. I did some reading online and supposedly a new non points style coil would bolt right on and work. This didn't work, so I did more research, and it said to unbolt the magneto and install it in the opposite direction. I am still not getting spark out of the motor and am not sure what todo. and I didn't fix any components in the points system due to I couldn't find all the parts. I can obtain obsolete part numbers from briggs and after market ones from Napa, that don't cross over.
Secondly, if I can get spark out of the ignition system, I am in need of finding a gas tank that looks period correct. I have spent a lot of time trying to find something that will work, but haven't come across a good solution.
