Cub Cadet Kohler engine.

My older Cub Cadet with a Kohler Courage late production engine had a messed up carburetor. Took it apart once and checked everything but over night it would slowly leak a little bit of gas. No, I am not taking it apart again. Went on Ebay. Screwed the new one on- started it up- adjusted the idle stop- and adjusted the air mix screw. Runs like a charm. Took just a little more than an hour. Fantastic price!

I have installed a number of the China aftermarket carbs all have worked good and fo the price you can't mess around with trying to get an old worn out carb to work

Yup, anymore it us hardley worth the time to mess with a common carburetor. If you buy enough of them you will get one that does work right but for the $ you can't beat them. I get a lot of unsolicited small engine work in the shop. Mostly units that have sat for extended periods with old gas. First thing I do when one comes in is snif the tank and if putrid to I order a carb unless its a Honda or clone, those I keep in stock.

I just bought an eBay carb. for my old JD 110 with a 10 hsp Kohler. I put a kit in it about fifteen years ago and if it set for over two weeks the needle would stick shut so I replaced that needle/seat. Now if sets for a month the air filter is wet with gas. I've changed the float level several times with no change, had enough going to try cheap China junk this time.

If you have the parts break down for that machine. If not go on line and download the PDF file. The carb should have an assembly part number. Type it in on Ebay. Should pop right up. If the pictures match....order it. When I got the one for my Briggs leaf vacuum engine it came with half a dozen extra parts. Little choke handles and choke plates to match stuff up. On the big 22hp Briggs V-twins the factory carbs are over $200.oo. Now on Ebay they are around $25.oo. They look identical and work fantastic. You pay more for a stupid rebuild kit!!

Speaking of Hondas. Had to rebuild two of the 8hp carbs a couple of years ago. All they needed was to be taken apart and the crud cleaned out. I have the complete $135.oo needle drills set for working on gas equipment. I also now have a spare carb I picked up at a car show for $20.oo. I have posted this video before but it is so complete and a little long but you see everything. Both off my engines run perfect after I followed this video. Give it a watch. That "pilot jet" is a bear if you don't know where it is.

HONDA Carb repair.

Me too and one of them was one for a BS V twin that Jeffcat recommended along with the Iridium spark plugs. For those interested, if you want to run
Iridium plugs in your equipment, the NGK parts list has enough information to allow you to do that. I just got a set for my Mercury 115 outboard.

https://www.ngksparkplugs.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/NGK-Catalogue-2019.pdf

Iridiums are near the end of the catalog. Remember NGK uses an inverted heat range scale....lower # is hotter. All the info you need is there: thread,
depth of thread, hex nut size (not really important if replacing with smaller size), type of tip, and heat range.

As Texas said... the NGK plugs work much better than anything I have tried. For the 8hp and up you want a 6 heat range. For the smaller 5 and 6hp engines you want a little hotter with the 5 range. For Briggs, Honda, Kholer, etc. I used the BPR6ES plugs. You can buy them on Ebay for a nice price. Now if you really want to try some Awsum plugs go with the Iridium plugs. They cost more but on Ebay they are worth it. That number is BKR6EIX-11 You MUST use this number for standard type engines. You will not beleave the difference they make. You see that code number 4272. You must have that on the box too! When you start your machine, you can't let go of the key fast enough because the engine is running already.

Nice work on the video. I hardly ever take a wrench to a Honda/clone carb as they have gotten so cheap. I don't throw the old ones away, have a box full, LOL. Last month there was a deal on Ebay for the 4-6HP engines where I got a carb, ignition coil and wiring, switch, low oil sensor, air filter, fuel tank filter, fuel line and spark plug for 12 bucks, free ship. I bought 6 kits,, threw the spark plugs away. I only use ngk in them.
