Hey y'all I'm trying to figure out what size rings to get for my old Montgomery Wards garden tractor I'm not 100% sure about the year. It's got a 14hp Briggs and Stratton cast iron series motor. I don't really want to buy the whole piston kit if I can avoid it.

I'd start by finding the model number info stamped on the engine.

Once you have that, GOOGLE should be able to help you with parts lists and sources.

Got a photo, lots of guys here could probably I.D. it from a photo.

I just want to add: The really old Briggs engines had a maker plate with the model number on it that was riveted to the cover that wraps around the fins on the cylinder on the engine. A lot of them don't have that cover on there any more.

Like Bob said, the later ones do have the model/type/code numbers stamped right into the blower cover.
