BS points or no points

11 HP B&S on my Hotsy power washer. I have had the washer about 35 years. Does this engine have breaker points or electronic ignition. Thanks Mark

That old most likely it has points under the flywheel

That engine was made in 1980. It was sometime in the '80s they went to electronic ignition. And there were some conversion kits that went on the old coils too. The conversion kit was white or yellow and snapped on the coil between one of the armature legs and the black housing. Later conversion coils had the trigger built into the coil itself. The only way to be certain how it is now is to take the blower cover off. If there is a wire that goes from the coil down behind the flywheel it still has points.

If you have no spark now, you should be able to do an upgrade to electronic ignition coil and that is the way I recommend you go.

Was discussed in another file. You can convert over to solid state with one of those ignitors. Here is one of the videos on Utube. Easy as pie.

I think points went away in 1982, so yours has them.
