Kohler k181

Hi all ! Got a puzzler here and hope someone has the answer! I have a K-181 that powers my 1960's era "Lickety-Log_Splitter" and has always started easily and ran great. That is until while running a log thru the splitter cut back the throttle causing the engine to backfire. Shortly after it started to run a bit rough and then stopped all together. I found the problem which was a broken intake valve collar )probably caused by the backfire and replaced the collar and keepers and thought that would be it. Now, I cannot get the engine started at all. I have spark from points to plug, gas getting to plug but will not catch and start.I have rebuilt the carb and pulled the flywheel to check if I sheared the key but all was good. Sooooooooooo.....tore the engine apart thinking I would find something broken (camshaft, govenor gear, etc. BUT all appears to be in great condition. I have not started to put it all back together yet as NOTHING has been done or found that would help me fix the non-starting problem..........ANY THOUGHTS would be highly appreciated !! The camshaft, crankshaft, gears, seals, etc. all appear to be in excellent shape with NO signs of wear , chips, breaks, etc. I'm going to get a new govenor gear anyway but do not think that is where the problem is. Hope someone out there has some better insight on what the problem can be....I'm stumped !!

Gosh, what's an "intake valve collar"?

Spark to the plug does not necessarily mean spark [i:6f5c581144]through[/color:6f5c581144][/i:6f5c581144] the plug.[/color:6f5c581144]Also, did you have compression before the tear down? I don't know this for certain, but I doubt if an 8 HP motor has ACR.

Do you have good compression? You'll have to put it back together to find out. Is the head gasket blown from the backfire. Is the exhaust blocked?
Keep us informed and good luck.

Dave.

Both of mine (1969 & 1970) have ACR.
