Tractor will not start and run drove it from barn to shop this morning. Changed carb from running tractor same results. Will fire and try to run but wont go. Will run about 5 seconds if you keep cranking starter. New plug points checked. Could it be coil or condenser or governor? May junk it.

Before you swapped out the carburetor, when you checked it for spark while it was cranking, did it have a continuous "hot" spark?

(If you DIDN'T check for spark and are just blindly swapping parts without any basic troubleshooting you might as well swap out every other lug bolt in the rear wheels, who knows, that just mite fix it!)

Yes have checked everything. ran for about half an hour this morning. Thanks for helpful reply. Wont be asking for help on this site again.

Yes, people sure are quick to change carburetors nowadays! I have never replaced a carb in my life, and never given up on an engine! But I can see with shop labor rates approaching $100 per hour it's cheaper to buy a $15 carb of eBay if your not brave enough to take one apart!

I'm sorry my crude attempt at stating the obvious has caused you distress, I sincerely apologize.

Please don't leave/be mad at the owners of this site and the many, many good folks that post here!

The reason I changed the carb was because I bought one from ebay as suggested on this site by Bob.

why junk it now , why did you put new caRB ON, you need 3 simple things spark, compression and fuel, your making this way to hard,

This is exactly the type of useless drivel that chases people away and causes a bad reputation for every poster on this site. Thanks.
