Case 220/lawn mower EZ clutch/engagement with mower issue

Hello Friends! I just recently purchased a Case 220 mower with a 14 HP engine (a previous owner swapped out the original 10 HP with a 14 HP engine) that is from around 1982.

I am having an issue with the left hand side engagement lever, whenever I press it forward to engage, it barely if at all, moves the blades. When I force pull the lever towards me on the mower, the blades engage and I can cut grass (the second I let go, it stops the blades).

When I push forward, I can lock the lever in place by a click, but it does not move the blade belt pulley on the deck much or at all.

The first picture is when I push the lever forward and the second is when I pull it towards me.

Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks friends!

Your clutch is assembled incorrectly. Those two slots the engagement lever is in should not be in line. But, rather offset a bit.

I suggest you grab a manual, remove the clutch and examine all the pieces, replace any, (including the 3 bearings) that are suspect. Then reassemble and adjust per the manual. Good reliable mechanism but does require occasional adjustment.

Link to manual.

Hello Friends!

Thank you very much for your help, I discovered that the cams on the clutch are not original and have a gap between them when I engaged the lever. I tried adjusting the clutch but, when it became engaged, the lever would shake back into disengagement.

Thank you for the help friends!

Hi next, did you take it apart and check everything and reassemble it, there are manuals on line for the ez adjust clutch

If you should need parts, drop me a PM. I have a lot of good used clutch parts, cams, complete clutch, engagement lever, spring washers, etc.

Hello friends!

I was able to disassemble/assemble the EZ clutch thanks to the video and manual! I am going meet up with a gentleman and purchase a different case mower (a 222) for parts and swap out the EZ clutch cams. For $300 with a dozer blade and just electrical problems, you can't beat that by much I reckon these days. If it does turn out to be the cams, I might PM you kencombs, for some parts, so both can be running.

Thank you all verymuch for your time!

I had impression you messed around some with small engines, you would not be interested in buying out dealership would ya, parts inventory, lifts,, customer list special tools , etc etc
