JD mower engine problem

So i bought a good used engine for my 1996 John Deere GT275, it has the K series Kawasaki 17hp engine. After i put the engine on and started the
bolts that hold it to the frame, i tried to start it. It started up, ran good, no smoke, sounded good. I cut it off after a minute or so running,
the next day i finished everything up, putting the drive belt on, etc. but now it will not turn over. The dash lights come on but its like the
battery isn't hooked up at all, will not even grunt. I tried changing out the starter, charging the battery, checking the ground wires, running new
wires, but nothing has helped. This has me baffled, nothing changed from one day to the next except putting the belts & pulleys on and making sure
the bolts were tight that hold it on the frame. Any ideas???

If the solenoid is not clicking in, sounds like one of the safety switches is not closing.

If the solenoid is clicking in, check for voltage across the starter stud and the starer case. If battery voltage there, and nothing happening, the starter or starters are bad. If the cables and starter are heating up, could be the drive is jammed in the flywheel, something stopping the engine from turning. Try turning it by hand.

If no or low voltage at the starter, check backward toward the battery, checking under load with the solenoid energized.

Stupid as it sounds....find the fuse in the harness. Down under the dash somewhere. Had that happen two years ago to me. Fuse had a little corrosive gunk on it and the holder. Just stopped dead.

Like Steve asked, have you tried turning it over by hand? Have you tried jumping directly from the battery to the starter? Troubleshoot before changing parts!

Yes it will turn over by hand, i'll check the fuses and go from there. I didn't have time yesterday to locate them.

I checked the fuses in the circuit board and they were good, didn't see a fuse in the wiring harness. One question though, where in the heck is the safety switch for the brake pedal, this one you have to press the brake to start the engine, i could not find a switch anywhere for it.

The only clicking i heard was from the bottom of the carb, it has a wire that plugs in at the bottom and it clicks when the switch is turned on,
