Lawn mower oil filters

Our son has a Husqvarna with a 24 hp Kohler, requires a Wix 51056, we have a JD with a Briggs, requires a Wix 57035. The only difference I can see is the length, the one for the Kohler is 10 mm longer, same threads, dia, and check valve. Do you think it would be OK to use the shorter one on the Kohler? Thanks.

Won't hurt a thing. At one time I had a cross reference that listed what filters would fit in place of the correct filter. I believe there were six filters that would work on small block Chrysler 318,360s. You just need to watch for clearance trouble. (I put on the long Ph-8 on my Jeep and the next time it was on the lift I saw a large dent.)

That's kind of what I thought, I will compare the specs again. On our JD there is certainly room for a longer one, and I think it allows more flow. Thanks!

on the wix website you can look up the filter specs on the correct filter.
Then you can look up filters by thread size.
The info will also give you the outer diameters, length, gasket diameters, etc. and compare all that might be interchange-able.

Will not hurt a thing as long as the thread pitch and dia. and the dia. of the O ring are the same.

Husqvarna has two factory filters. Only difference being one is longer than the other.

Had that trouble with model "L" Gravely. Original is a PH-8 filter. Now a Chrysler "K" car takes a PH-16 Filter. Gusee what, the 16 is the shorter version of the 8. No more trying to angle the filter on to the Gravely. The 16 screws right on. Goofy problems solved.:)

There are 2 different length oil filters for the B & S Intek. Both my Troy Bilt tractors came with the shorter one, but I buy the longer one. I also do that with my 1999 Saturn SL1 car. Makes for a little more oil capacity, and a little more filtering capacity...

I have found that the Fram ph3614 fits many of these lawn mower engines if you have room for the length. Saves money and is readily available.

yes will be fine ,its just simply some engines are mounted with very tight clearance issues thus the short filter, I always use the long in shop but when customer wants one and does not have clue what he has I always send them the short one.

Ohhhh yes the old PH-3614. Out there hiding in your garage cabinet or up on the
shelf with some dust bunnies. Two on Ebay if anyone wants a deal.

I'm amazed at the number of part numbers BS seems to have for the same filter. Don't understand why, threads are the same, other dimensions the same, same 20ish micron filtration, pressure relief valve and all. So you go to ebay and look up filters and you have a dozen part numbers that are subs for the one you asked for.
