I have a Lazer Z HP Zero Turn Model LHP5223KA. The Kawasaki Engine Model FH680V-A521, is dead. I am looking for any information about which engine I can use for a replacement. Kohler? HF Predator? I need to do this on a low budget. Anyone re-engine one of these? Any information will be appreciated. E-Mail is open

whats actually wrong with the original engine, I was always told they were blow in shop but they never were, just curious still selling parts otherwisw trying to close shop down

The lower seal on the crankshaft went out and I did not catch it in time. Low oil pressure kill switch did not work apparently. Engine has a definite clunk when turned over. Any suggestions for a replacement engine?

As far as I know, Kawasaki is still offering a direct replacement for that engine. If your muffler is under and to the rear of the engine, that is probably the only engine that will fit your muffler. Not cheap though.

Any other brand can probably be bolted in, but you have to work out the exhaust/ muffler, electrical and crankshaft accessories(pulley and clutch) yourself.

Your right almost anything will bolt in, has anyone ever done a replacement engine in a Ex Mark and what engine did you use.

work thru a dealer that can get Kawasaki and tell them the old specs you can get a replacement that will simply bolt in usually done it several times when had my shop.

Most engines agree to a 10" mounting bolt circle that OEMs stamp into their engine mounting plates. The engine OEMs seem to have a standard layout as far as electrical and fuel connection locations and interfaces and if you are swapping V twin for V twin, the controls usually adapt too. With that said, most any V twin will mount. Only problem is getting the muffler interface you need. I have done replacements and found great deals on ebay for new engines and used mufflers to fit them......just because a muffler is used, the ones that mount to these types of engines are bullet proof.

I swapped out a Kawasaki for a B&S on a X Mark.

Pay attention to the shaft diameter, about everything else will bolt right up.

I was even able to adapt the Kaw muffler, had to make an aluminum spacer flange for one side.

Found the engine on Ebay. Said it was new, but there was soot inside the exhaust ports, I suspect it was test started and failed. I found an assembly problem on the choke linkage. Had to drill out a rivet, correct the problem and put it back together. It has run well for several years now, home use, not commercial.
