Please tell me about a John Deere 332 diesel garden tractor. Are they a good choice for collectors who would also like to use it for mowing. Are parts readily available? Any info regarding experience with this unit appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The 332 is the water cooled diesel version of what is often considered one of the best LGT'S ever made, the 318.

AFAIK, DEERE still has good parts support for it, but do due diligence, and check that out for yourself.

(They are a smooth running fuel-sippinjg beast, in my experience, but YAMMV!)

As long as the engine is sound, that is a great machine. Parts readily available, lots of used stuff on ebay as well as new from the dealer.

Engine parts for the little Yanmar diesel are expensive though if they should be needed.

Good machine if you like a hand operated hydro. I prefer the foot operated hydros of newer machines.
My wife's uncle had one. One problem I recall is the alt. is so close to the exhaust manifold it can cook the back bearing in it. If you catch it early it is an easy fix to put new bearings in it. If you don't catch it and don't hear it making noise like he did it snapped the belt the belt went down and got into the drive shaft and dragged the wiring harness along with it ! lol. what a mess to fix.

Yep it is a 318 with a diesel. One problem to check is where the rear bolts to the frame, the frame is known to crack at the bolt holes. The down and dirty fixe is a piece of angle iron placed between the frame, and the rear end, drill for the rear and weld to the frame. I have 332 in the shed for the power flow bagger, and the push blade.

I have the JD 330, which was the non power steering equipped predecessor to the 330. I consider it a valuable workhorse on my small farm. I have a front blade, 46' deck, and front grapple for it. I routinely tug my 4x4 chain harrow behind it too. I put water filled ag tires on it and it pulls well.

Thanks everybody for your responses. I have made a deal to acquire a JD 332 with 1380 hours on working hourmeter. Injection pump recently rebuilt and runs very smoothly. Very happy about this deal. Unit is in very good operational and aesthetic condition.
