Well crap, finally got to work on the 425 after it quit running on the 4th. After 1281 hours the ol' plastic cam gear gave up the ghost. Should have been a recall for
these things. Oh well.

There was a bulletin for those cam gears on the water cooled Kawasaki engines in other make mowers. Deere warranties their own stuff. It said 'fix as fail'. Meaning don't touch it until it breaks.


And I am thinking your 425 is probably over 10 years old, so yours got through the warranty period.
 
Yours went longer than most. I have that same engine in an F725 but it is vertical shaft and that part is submerged in oil. They last longer in those but not forever. LOL. Mine may of made it to 1700 ? been awhile ago I think I have 1900 on it now.
