Transaxle oil

My old Stiga transaxle calls for 30w oil but when the oil gets hot the tranny slips so much that it will not climb even a small grade. I'm wondering about putting in some Hyd 55w oil that I have. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Warm the complete tractor up. Drain the oil while it is hot. Refill with fresh 30 Weight oil such as Shell' Rotella.

I find that companies like Tough Torque who manufacture a lot of available drive units have upped their oil viscosity recommendations. Case in point, I
abused a JD L110 awhile back and the owners manual specified 10W-30. I went to TT for the repair parts and in the parts box were the parts, a Gimmie
Cap....neat, and a note saying up up the oil to 20W-50. My 2016 Ferris 61" ZT specifies 20w-50 for it's drive units.
