Cub Cadet 108 Front Wheel Issue

I inherited an old IH Cub Cadet 108 from my dad. He rebuilt the tractor many years ago and put a bigger Kohler under the hood. My issue is that I believe the front wheel broke. The center hub, where the bearings go in, is no longer a part of the wheel and it spins and wobbles. I am guessing those are not designed to come apart like this.

So, in a pinch, can the bearings be removed and that center hub welded back into place? Of course, the center will be very important to find.

Does anyone know where I could find new wheels? The rubber mounted on them are the 16 X 6.50-8

I appreciate all of the help!

Sorry I can't answer your question, but someone with a wealth of knowledge should be along soon. In the meantime, in case you weren't aware, there is a website called onlycubcadets.com that might be able to help.

I have wheels from a 128, same chassis with a 12hp engine. But they are in OK. If you don't find anything closer to you, send me a PM.

If the bearing hub broke loose from the rim. The wheel would fall or could be pulled off.

The bearings are driven/ pressed into the hub. If one or both of the bearings went bad. The wheel would wobble but not come off.

A new rim assembly is part # [b:7dd74b2be8]Cub Cadet IH-545730-R2[/b:7dd74b2be8] . They run around $80 - 90 each and includes a new rim and bearings (5.38/8 Rim for 16 X 6.50-8 tires) . Plus the cost of a new valve stem for tubeless tires.

The bearings alone are part # [b:7dd74b2be8]Cub Cadet IH-384881-R94[/b:7dd74b2be8] and cost about $20 each (need two for each wheel/ rim).

It is actually very fortunate that the wheel did not fall off. I believe someone may have welded on this sometime in the past as the bearings are still in the hub and they are snug on the axle, no play there. The only thing that keeps the wheel from falling off is that there is a small ridge of weld on each side that is preventing the wheel from sliding off the hub. It can slop back and forth about a 1/8 of an inch, but it cannot fall off.

kencombs, it's funny you bring up a 128. When my dad got this mower, the original engine was getting weak. He replaced it with a 12HP and then found some stick on numbers and put 128 on the side of the hood. Out of curiousity where are you located? I live in Eastern North Dakota.

Thank you Mule Meat for the rim information. I will check into what I can find. I am extremely thankful for a site like this. The knowledge base is incredible!

(quoted from post at 07:58:24 07/12/19) I'm in OK, near Tulsa.

Thank you for the offer. I have decided to go straight from Cub Cadet and get a new wheel. Hopefully, be here around the end of next week. I could find the wheel slightly cheaper at other places, but by the time you add in shipping, you are looking at more than Cub Cadet prices.

Thank you, everyone, for all of the help.
