16 hp Briggs problem

I have a 16 hp Briggs on a craftsman rider. The engine starts and runs then acts like it?s going to die then smooths out. Then repeats. Any suggestions?

That sounds like its not getting enough fuel. Does feathering in the choke help it some? If it does, it probably needs the carburetor cleaned, fuel filter replaced, or some such.

Feathering the choke doesn?t help. I had the carb bowl off and looks clean. Possibly the fuel safety solenoid?

Got it. Bypassed the fuel safety solenoid and adjusted the carb. Thanks.

How did you bypass the fuel solenoid??

The solenoid is opened to allow fuel to enter the main jet when power is supplied to it.

Cut the pkwer and it closes thus shutting off fuel flow.

I guess bypass was the wrong word. I cut off the plunger and disconnected the wires.
