Got'r'done!

I have 2 Troybilt garden tractors. I bought a new 2001 with a 22 HP B & S Intrek, and it has over 900 hours on it. I use it for mowing and snowblowing with a 42" 2 stage snow blower. A couple of years ago I bought a 2002 that looks a lot like my 2001, but it has a mechanical mower deck engagement instead of the electric clutch on the 2001. It had around 325 hours on it. I got it for $100 with some issues. It looked like a PO dropped it or drove it off a dock because the front wheels were knockkneed. It had a cheaper sheet metal front axle, so I found a cast iron axle like the one on my 2001 on Craigslist, and installed that. Then later, I noticed the rear transaxle was also knockkneed, and the right axle was wearing a slot in the top of the aluminum housing. So a coupla months ago I found the exact transaxle on CL, and installed it today. The big problem in the whole project was getting one of the wheels off the (new to me) axle. A buddy and I battled it about 2 hours Saturday afternoon. Never had one come off so hard, fought us every millimeter of the way! But, it's done, new oil, and filter, deck reinstalled and mowed with it for about an hour earlier. Now it's 89F, so I'm in the AC with a tall glass of lemonade..

That is the style of Troybilt with the plastic nose hood, isn't it?

Sometimes those wheels just grow fast to the axle. Rust, I guess.

I'm glad you got it fixed.

T.r.k.

Had to make a wheel puller for a deal like that. Great big bar that bolts to the wheel with a great big bolt into the end of the axle with a bolt to protect the threads. Then apply flame wrench. They can be a real bear somethimes. By the way. If you get the right rear wheel off....service that little brake gizmo. The next thing is grease the axle and throw the wheel back on. NEVER EVER pound outwards on those axles. If you bust the snap ring inside you now have a real prize of a job ahead of you.

I used Mapp gas heat about 3 times, plus I used anti seize on the axles where the wheels go on when I put it back together. I did drench the little disc brake with Kroil when I installed it. Works good...
