John Deere F935 mower with Yanmar diesel

Does anyone know what the operating temperature of this 23 hp three cylinder Yanmar diesel engine should be? At what temperature is it too hot to operate? They have a idiot light which mine keeps coming on but the engine does not seem hot, so I m thinking of putting on a actual gage.

It should have a 12psi pressure cap and a 180deg thermostat. Boiling point will be 240 or so with 50/50 mix.

If the light comes on, the first thing to check is the radiator fins. those little diesels don't tolerate much airflow restriction before triggering that light. On my 455,(same engine) it also cuts off the PTO when that happens.

A few minutes with a air blow gun with an extended nozzle and I'm back cutting grass.

Our JD 4600 has a Yanmar engine and it runs a little on the cold side, maybe like 165? I checked it when it was new because I
was concerned, and found that it was fine. It always warms up to the same point on the gauge, whether -20 or +90F, so I am
confident its OK. Take an air hose and clean the radiator and any other accumulated dust frequently. I have a blow pipe with a
bend in the end so I can blow the radiator out from the back, not an easy thing to do.

The book says the switch closes at 212 deg.The light has an 10 amp fuse on it.(if the light is on, the horn should
be too.)

Well after the unit cooled down for the night, I started it up and the lights still on, and for what ever reason I engaged the blades and the light went off, so I have a wiring issue. I'm still going to go get a real gage and install it thought. As for cleaning the radiator. I had done that last time after running it and did it again when it started the light coming on. I did go down the road to the neighbors and he put his hand held pyrometer on it after it had ran for an hour and it is only showing 150 degrees at the nipple where the top radiator hose is connected to. Thanks guys.
