13HP Kohler fast idle

I have a JD LT133 with a 13 hp Kohler. Last summer the engine stopped going into a low idle when I moved the throttle down. Works perfect in high idle/mowing speed. The idle might drop a bit, but not much. The linkage moves like it should when you move the throttle lever up and down. Any thoughts on this? Something possibly plugged inside the carb? The machine starts and runs great other than not wanting to go to low idle.

Thanks.

Look to see if something is binding against the governor/carburetor linkage so it can't close easily.

Could even be a throttle plate loose on the shaft and/or jammimg against the throttle bore.

Could be a governor issue, or the throttle and/or governor linkage may need a small adjustment.

Armed with the engine Kohler model number, go to www.kohlerengines.com, and you should be able to view and/or download the service manual for free to look up the exact procedure.

Bob has some good ideas. One thing I would check is the screw on the carburetor that regulates the idle speed. It is on the top of the carburetor has a spring around it, and pushes against a stop on the arm the governor link hooks to. try backing that screw up a 1/2 turn or so and see if the idle speed will go down any. Sometimes those screws work themselves tighter or looser over time.

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw? It could of vibrated to a higher speed. Otherwise Bob has a good idea, if the throttle plate is loose, you better get to it before it comes loose and the screws go through the engine!
